The Summer Game Fest 2023 was once again the scene of great announcements from various and varied studios. We give you the great recap of all the key announcements of the conference.
The Summer Game Fest 2023 has officially started. Geoff Keighley and around forty developers and publishers came to provide the show for two hours, with as many games shown. The conference was particularly awaited, as previous editions contained strong announcements and surprises. Did it live up to expectations? FF7 Rebirth, Prince of Persia, the big surprises of the conference
The big surprise at the end was not one. Square Enix’s teaser was not very subtle and all hopes were placed in this Summer Game Fest 2023. It did not fail! FF7 Rebirth came to conclude a half-hearted conference with a trailer that is enough to give chills to fans of the license. Some narrative sections are confirmed, gameplay sequences have been shown, the world (open or not) has been revealed. The second episode of the trilogy should surprise veterans who know the original inside out with new scenarios. The date is set for early 2024, with Square Enix rumored to be targeting January.
On the theme, the pre-registrations of FF7 Ever Crisis are launched. For the record, the game will serve as an anthology by retracing the entire history of the saga and the spin-offs while adding chapters on Sephiroth’s childhood. This Summer Game Fest 2023 still has some real surprises in store for us, those we didn’t see coming. Starting with the 2.5D game inspired by Metroidvania: Prince of Persia The Lost Crown. And it’s not the only anthological license that comes back in a new light. After a cool Sonic Frontiers, SEGA wants to try to win back the hearts of fans with a 2.5D game of the most beautiful effect which already promises to be a tribute to the old Megadrive episodes: Sonic Superstars.
The strong announcements of the Summer Games Fest 2023
The conference was also punctuated by strong announcements. Mortal Kombat 1 provided the show with a gameplay sequence as gory as it was insane. The icing on the cake, Jean Claude Van Damme will double Johnny Cage in this reboot. Alan Wake 2 came to present a little gameplay but not too much. This is one of the small disappointments for fans of the license, who remain unsatisfied. Note the appearance of some expected titles such as the competitor of Diablo 4, Path of Exile 2, Baldur’s Gate 3 or Sandland, the game from the creator of Dragon Ball. But the unexpected announcement probably comes from Insomniac Games. The developers used the aura of the Summer Game Fest 2023 conference to unveil the release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and its Collector’s Edition.
After the unfortunate leaks, Like a Dragon Gaiden The Man Who Erased His Name has become official for the occasion. The more modest productions also followed one another. Among them, Banishers Ghosts of New Eden the new game from Don’t Nod and Focus Home, John Carpenter who launches with the game Toxic Commando, Immortals of Aveum, the Call of Duty Magic and especially Lies of P, the Bloodborne-like who continues to impress with each of his appearances. Quantic Dream came to present two of its edited titles: Under the Waves and Lysfanga: The Time Shift Warrior, a hack’n’slash with a tactical dimension.
A bit of Hollywood at the conference
As adaptations of video games on the small and large screen are popular, there was a bit of Hollywood at this Summer Game Fest 2023. Starting with Nicolas Cage, who came to confirm his arrival in Dead By Daylight. Season 3 of The Witcher, the last with Henry Cavill, as agreed unveiled its trailer which did not fail to have its small effect with fans. The surprise comes mainly from PlayStation, which released a trailer Twisted Metal, its series which will be released in July on the Peacock platform.
