A man allegedly stole Pokémon cards worth over $2,000 in Newhall, California. This makes it one of the largest amounts ever stolen.
Pokémon cards have become increasingly valuable over the years, and their prices have skyrocketed lately.
The Pokémon trading card game community has long believed that it is the resale market that is responsible for these high prices and which, in turn, is ruining the hobby of collecting these iconic cards.
Accumulating thousands, if not millions of dollars in resale value, these products have gone from a hobby to products that can now be used as a means of paying for your child’s education, turning these cards into a valid symbol of wealth for some people.
On April 13, 2022, an article by The Signal reported that these highly coveted cards were the focus of a theft.
California man on the run after stealing over $2,000 in Pokemon cards
As reported by The Signal, an anonymous man robbed a Newhall card shop on Wednesday. Known as SCV Card Connection, the store had filed a report alerting authorities to the crime as deputies arrived on the scene around noon.
Although reports say there were no injuries or weapons used, the man was able to flee the scene after stealing more than $2,000 worth of rare cards.
A Santa Clarita Valley spokeswoman named Deputy Natalie Arriaga offered word on the incident, saying: “On April 13 at approximately 11:45 a.m. a call for service was received regarding a white adult male who allegedly stole Pokemon cards”.
This flight is unfortunately a record.
As of April 15, 2022, no suspects have been found or arrested for this theft.
