Reims, new cradle of the International Detective Film Festival

After its announced separation in January from the city of Beaune (Côte-d’Or), which had hosted it for twelve years, the International Police Film Festival did not take long to find another partner and a new one. cradle. The announcement is now official: it is in Reims, in the Marne, that the next edition of this annual meeting will be held in 2022. That of this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, having to be satisfied with an online version that we can follow from May 26 to 30.

On the program: twenty feature films from more than a dozen countries (France, Italy, Denmark, Germany, South Korea, Iran, Romania, Bulgaria, the United States, etc.), nine of which will be in competition. add five films which will compete in the “New Blood” section which favors new writings.

When she learned that the festival organizers were looking for a new host city, the municipality of Reims did not hesitate to make its call for tenders. “We immediately seized the opportunity, underlines the LR mayor of the city, Arnaud Robinet. An international film festival in our city strengthens our policy in this area. In fact, in addition to the Opéraims, located in the city center [multiplexe de onze salles dont cinq classées Art & Essai, ouvert en 2019], we have had film studios for three years, thanks to the rehabilitation of a former air base. On the other hand, we have long maintained a strong link with the thriller, through many literary events including our Interpol’Art festival. Finally, after 1918, Reims which, during the war, had been largely destroyed, was able to completely rebuild itself. Committing ourselves to this festival, after the year of suffering experienced by cinema, therefore represents for us a true symbol. “

The same goes for moves: by once again changing location, the festival adds a third act to its history. This began in 1982 in Cognac (Charente) – his place of residence until 2007 -, and continued in Beaune from 2009 to 2019. But a dispute between the Burgundy city and the organizers of the event had resulted the cancellation of the 2020 edition, which was to be held online, and ended up separating the two parties definitively. “The formula has run out of steam. This festival was about ten years old, and lately, it had lost its influence and the headliners of the departure », then declared, on France 3, Charlotte Fougère, the cultural assistant of Beaune.
