Renault expands production of e-cars

This should create around 700 new jobs, as the carmaker announced on Wednesday. So far, almost 5,000 people have been employed at the three locations. Renault is fighting under the new CEO Luca De Meo with the increasing competition in electric cars. More and more car manufacturers are getting into electromobility and using Renault’s Zoe e-model. Volkswagen in particular is celebrating sales successes across Europe with its ID series.

In the new unit, Renault will merge the factories in the Hauts-de-France region in future, which should bring cost advantages through the coordination of processes. To this end, agreements have been made with the trade unions. Cars are assembled in Douai, commercial vehicles in Maubeuge and Ruitz so far built gearboxes. Electrical components are to be manufactured there in the future.
