Next Republican wants to be US President

The pool of candidates for the Republican presidential nomination is growing. Former Gov. Chris Christie is also reportedly tossing his hat in the ring. He recently described his closest competitor, Donald Trump, as a “coward”.
According to media reports, the former governor of the US state of New Jersey, Chris Christie, wants to enter the presidential race next week. The 60-year-old Republican will announce his bid for the Conservative Party’s presidential nomination on Tuesday at a public conference in New Jersey, the news website Axios initially reported. The news channel CNN also reported on an upcoming application by the critic of ex-President Donald Trump.
Christie ran for the Republican nomination in the 2016 primary. But he got out of the race early and joined the eventual primary winner Trump. Following Trump’s victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton in the November 2016 presidential election, Christie temporarily led the transition team preparing for the transition to power.
He was also under discussion for a ministerial post, but ultimately did not get a post in the Trump administration. One reason for this may have been a scandal over the closure of a bridge during his time as governor (2010 to 2018), with which he allegedly wanted to punish a mayor who was his enemy.
Field of applicants has grown significantly
In recent years, Christie has emerged as a Trump critic. Only recently did he describe the ex-president as a “coward” and “puppet” of Russian President Vladimir Putin because of his attitude to the Ukraine war. Trump announced last November that he would run again in the 2024 presidential election. The field of Republican candidates has grown significantly in recent months. Just last week, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis – probably the most dangerous inner-party Trump rival – announced his candidacy for the presidency.
Other applicants include former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, African American Senator Tim Scott and former Governor of Southern Arkansas Asa Hutchinson. Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence is also considering running for office. The primaries for the November 2024 presidential election will begin in February next year. The Republican primary winner will challenge incumbent Democratic Party incumbent Joe Biden, who is running for re-election.
