Reshuffle: why is Emmanuel Macron dragging so much?

Expected before the end of the weekend, the reshuffle ultimately did not take place. Élisabeth Borne did go to the Élysée this Sunday, but it was to discuss certain important issues, such as the situation in Pas-de-Calais. But then why is the announcement of this reshuffle dragging on so long?

The weekend spent at the Lanterne residence did not allow Emmanuel Macron to light up his own. The President is still in the dark and he cannot see any clearer on the strategy to adopt. Change incarnation in Matignon? The head of state is still asking himself the question. According to information from Europe 1, Élisabeth Borne, who saw him on Sunday, did not receive any guarantee about his future.

What strategy for Emmanuel Macron?

Two men are in the spotlight: the former Minister of Agriculture, Julien Denormandie, and the Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu. Back to basics with early support or heading to the right with a former member of the Republicans? For Emmanuel Macron, who has always had difficulty deciding in this type of situation, this decision-making appears to be a dilemma.

Especially since his historic ally François Bayrou is putting pressure on him. With his 51 deputies, the boss of MoDem is putting all his weight against the appointment of Sébastien Lecornu, as he had already done against that of Catherine Vautrin in May 2022.

A major sticking point, when the challenge for the tenant of the Élysée is to have a Prime Minister capable of putting the majority in motion for the European elections. For lack of anything better, the great upheaval announced could therefore give birth to a mouse, with the retention of Élisabeth Borne at Matignon.
