Daniela Klette apparently had a small weapons cache in her apartment. After the investigators initially only found ammunition, they later came across firearms, a hand grenade and other “dangerous objects,” as they say. In order to ensure safe removal, the neighbors have to spend the night somewhere else.

Two days after the arrest of the former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette, the case continues to keep the capital on tenterhooks: The removal of dangerous weapons from the home of the former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette in Berlin-Kreuzberg continues into the night. In the evening, the police initially took away a grenade. It was later said that another potentially dangerous item needed to be removed and other items examined. The seven-story apartment building had already been evacuated in the evening; the residents were accommodated with relatives, friends, in warm buses from the BVG transport company and in a gym.

What type of dangerous object it is is still unknown. The Berlin police referred them to the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office just wrote on X around 11:30 p.m.: “An item must be picked up using special transport technology, which is why the measures on Sebastianstrasse in Kreuzberg will take a long time.” The special vehicle will take some time to get there, said a police spokeswoman. The technicians would also have to take a closer look at other items in the apartment.

According to the police, the grenade that the explosive ordnance disposal service seized in the building has now been rendered harmless at another location. In the wake of the discovery, the apartment building was evacuated and the sidewalk was initially closed. At around 10 p.m. the exclusion zone was expanded, the entire Sebastianstrasse was cordoned off and some apartments in another building were evacuated. “A building opposite is being partially evacuated to allow additional items to be removed,” the police said.

Firearm discovery confirmed

The police had previously discovered firearms on Wednesday. A spokeswoman for the LKA Lower Saxony confirmed a corresponding report from the “Tagesspiegel” in the evening. After Klette’s arrest on Monday evening, the police came across, among other things, magazines from a pistol and cartridges.

Meanwhile, the search continues for Burkhard Garweg and Ernst-Volker Staub, who, like Klette, are assigned to the third generation of the RAF. It is unclear how close the investigators are on the two of them. For “investigative and tactical reasons,” the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office (LKA) initially did not provide any further details. A man who was arrested on Tuesday after one has since been released. According to “Tagesspiegel”, judicial circles said it was an “important person”.
