Residents worried – bear runs through the middle of a tourist resort on Lake Garda

A bear was spotted Tuesday morning in a well-known tourist resort on Lake Garda in Trentino, Italy. The animal ran through the center of Arco in the middle of the street. According to reports, the bear may have migrated down Mount Stivo into the valley. A resident of the village described that the bear was frightened and was probably looking for an escape route.

Arco Mayor Alessandro Betta said he had received dozens of phone calls from concerned citizens. Trento provincial forestry officials said the animal was “a stray and unsafe animal.” In Val di Sole, in April, a 26-year-old jogger was fatally attacked by a problem bear in the woods of Caldes. Last weekend, a family from Cavizzana also saw two bears in their yard. Bears are repeatedly sighted in Val di Sole, also near garbage containers. After the death of the jogger in Trentino, the debate about the coexistence of bears and humans in Italy has intensified. Animal rights activists regularly call for people to be made more aware of wild animals or for wildlife corridors to be set up.
