Barca star hospitalized with heart problems
At the Barcelona game against Alavas, the Argentine star striker Sergio Agüero complains of chest pain. Shortly before the break, he goes down and needs treatment. He can leave the place, but from there he goes straight to the clinic for a cardiological examination.
Great concern for star striker Sergio Agüero. The 33-year-old Argentinean went down in a 1-1 draw between his FC Barcelona and Deportivo Alaves just before the break. He grabs his chest and was treated on the court. After a long break, he was able to leave the field himself. He looked dazed and was immediately taken to a clinic for a closer examination.
“Sergio Agüero complained of chest pain for a long time during the first half. He was replaced by Philippe Coutinho and taken straight to a hospital for a cardiological examination,” said FC Barcelona. “He told me he was a little dizzy,” said the Catalans’ interim coach Sergi Barjuán at La Liga TV. The results of the investigation are still pending.
At the beginning of the year, 33-year-old Agüero missed ten games from his then-Manchester City club due to a corona infection. He had only moved to Barcelona from the Premier League this summer, also hoping to spend the last few years of his career alongside his friend Lionel Messi. But the Argentine superstar left the crisis-ridden giant for Paris.
After a calf injury in preparation, Agüero will not make his debut for his new club until mid-October. He scored his first goal for Barcelona last week in the 2-1 loss in the Clasico against Real Madrid. In the following game against Rayo Vallacano, Ronald Koeman’s last appearance as Barca coach, he was in the starting line-up for the first time.
Interim coach Barjuán lost another player in the second half of the Alaves game. Gerard Piqué was eliminated with a calf injury and threatens to be out at least for the UEFA Champions League game at Dynamo Kiev. With only 16 league points from eleven games, Barcelona are still in crisis nationally and they are also fighting for survival on the international stage. Barca are currently third in the Bayern group with just three points, one point behind Benfica Lisbon.
