Richard Ferrand, President of the National Assembly, positive for Covid-19 with “mild symptoms”


The President of the National Assembly tested positive for the coronavirus and “immediately placed himself in isolation”.

The President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand has tested positive for the coronavirus. “Showing mild symptoms since (Sunday) evening”, the LREM deputy of Finistère “immediately placed himself in solitary confinement”, it is specified in a press release from the Presidency of the National Assembly. “Declared positive following a test carried out this morning and provided with a complete vaccination schedule, the president remains in isolation, in accordance with health directives,” he added.

Richard Ferrand “will continue to exercise his responsibilities from a distance” and “asked Vice-President David Habib to chair (Tuesday) the session of questions to the government”.

Three contaminated ministers

While cases of contamination are increasing, it was decided at a conference of presidents of the Assembly on Monday morning that any deputy with Covid or contact case would be authorized to delegate his right to vote for all public ballots in the hemicycle.

On the government side, Elisabeth Moreno, the Minister for Equality and Minister for Gender Equality, announced on Monday that she was positive for the coronavirus. She isolated herself and said “continue to perform (s) functions remotely”. At the end of December, it was the Minister of Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili who was affected by the virus on December 27, then Emmanuelle Wargon, the Minister of Housing, on December 31.
