Riot Games wants to reduce overall damage in League of Legends because of power creep

According to Bryan “Axes” Salvatore, Riot hopes these changes will arrive during the 2022 season, so you don’t have to wait until next season. This in-game damage issue was recently noted by Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek, a former pro player, who spoke about it during one of these streams. The case has since gone viral on social media, catching Riot’s attention.

Riot’s MOBA community has often debated around general damage within League of Legends. The game knows a great power creep due to the addition of new, ever more powerful heroes, pushing the meta to evolve and the balance changes to up the damage of many champions. This damage is immense and thePlayers have often requested that they be nerfed. We are actively working on finding the right nuanced version of overall damage reduction in-game. We hope to ship the changes when they’re ready, and we’re ready to ship them during the season instead of having to wait until pre-season if we’re able to do so outside of specific launch windows. like playoffs/MSI or Worlds leadup.

In December 2021, Erik “Treatz” Wessen, the support of SK Gaming had also called Riot nerfed in-game damage, sustain and shielding by 20%. Axes then shared results from their internal testing of a 20% reduction in damage, sustain, and shield.

The problem is that if such changes are made, this will greatly affect the meta and therefore the game at the professional level and given the size of the League of Legends scene, this could turn everything upside down. Riot had already recognized this problem in October 2021 and therefore declared that no nerfs would come any time soon.
