At 80 years old, some things are difficult. Robert De Niro knows this too. That’s why he leaves the raising of the children to his girlfriend.
Brave but honest statement from Hollywood superstar Robert De Niro (80): In an interview with the British newspaper “The Guardian” he admitted that he does not interfere in the upbringing of his youngest daughter Gia. He leaves this “hard work” to his partner Tiffany Chen (45). The two became parents together for the first time in April 2023; it is De Niro’s seventh child.
This division of labor obviously also has to do with his advanced age. De Niro literally: “It doesn’t get any easier.” He supports his girlfriend, but she does the work. However, Chen is getting help, which the actor says is important. However, he still enjoys being a father: “It’s different with a baby than with my 11-year-old. With my adult children. My grandchildren. Everything is different.” For example, the respective speech is of course different.
As the conversation continues, the Oscar winner, who is otherwise considered media-shy, also talks about his own finitude. “Of course I think about it, at my age.” You can’t stop death, he is aware of it. Above all, he would think more intensively about time and use it better: “I can’t wait until next year – I don’t know what will happen then. So every thing becomes more important.” Everything he wants to do in two years should be done right away.
Robert De Niro already has seven children
Robert De Niro and Tiffany Chen announced in May that they had welcomed a daughter. In an interview with the New York Post, the actor revealed that this was his dream child. De Niro has daughter Drena (52) and son Raphael (46) from his marriage to Diahnne Abbott (78), twins Aaron and Julian (27) and son Elliott (25) and daughter from his ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith (71). Helen (11, was carried by a surrogate mother) with ex-wife Grace Hightower (68).
In July 2023, it was announced that his grandson Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, the son of his first daughter Drena, died at just 19 years old. He died after taking adulterated pills. “Someone sold him pills laced with fentanyl,” De Niro’s daughter wrote on Instagram a few days after her son’s death. De Niro himself said he was “deeply shocked” in a statement.
