Robots at rest stop – Waldviertel dialect causes problems for “Pipelino”

He’s a real little jack-of-all-trades who is on duty every day at the AVIA station in Gmünd. He greets customers in a friendly way, has important information ready for them, as well as some friendly words and currently even Advent poems. “Pipelino” is an extraordinary employee – a robot!

Between the Christmas tree and the parcel, “Pipelino” in the AVIA station in Gmünd reminds us that Christmas will soon be around. He does this with poems and songs, and on request he can also present a photo advent calendar. “Pipelino” never loses the good mood. No wonder, that is what it was programmed for. This is a robot from Generation Pepper, developed by the French company Aldebaran Robotics SAS and the Japanese SoftBank Mobile group. Can recite poetry, weighs 29 kilos, can speak, hear, gesticulate and even dance. A lot of what he can do was taught to him by students from the IT-HTL Zwettl / Krems. Among other things, that “Pipelino” can recite Christmas carols and poems. He owes this “talent” to Tobias Scherzer, Stefan Wandl and Mario Rausch. Great help In everyday life at the AVIA station in Gmünd, “Pipelino” takes orders or helps with checking in at the motel. He only has problems with one thing for the time being: “With the Waldviertel dialect,” says managing director Andreas Weber with a smile. But they are already working on it.
