Cher and Mariah Carey are nominated for the first time

The nominations for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are in. Cher and Mariah Carey have a chance at a place in the Hall of Fame in 2024.
The nominations for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2024 have been announced. Mariah Carey (54) and Cher (77), this is the first nomination for both of them.
In addition to the two exceptional artists, there are also singer Mary J. Blige (53), the Dave Matthews Band, the duo Eric B. & Rakim, the British musician Peter Frampton (73), the rock band Jane’s Addiction, the soul, funk and disco Group Kool & the Gang, mega star Lenny Kravitz (59), the cult band Oasis, the late Sinéad O’Connor (1966-2023), Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne (75), singer Sade (65) and the Hip-hop group A Tribe Calles Quest nominated.
Cher: “Not even for a million in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame”
To be eligible for a nomination, an individual artist or band must have “released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.” says the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame about the requirements.
However, the offer apparently comes too late for one of this year’s nominees. Cher said in December 2023 during her visit to the “Kelly Clarkson Show”that she would decline a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination. “I wouldn’t be there now even for a million dollars,” said the singer literally. She seemed to have been annoyed by a lack of offerings in the past – after all, she has had at least one number one single in each of the last seven decades. Apart from her, only the Rolling Stones managed to do that, according to Cher. She continued, “It takes four of them to be like me.” The singer could do without the Hall of Fame today. “I will never change my mind,” she said.
List will be announced at the end of April
Whether Cher is one of this year’s chosen ones will become clear at the end of April. The final list will then be published. A ceremony is planned for this fall in Cleveland. This will be broadcast live on Disney+. The ABC station is broadcasting a special program.
