Plissé looks like it sounds: airy, elegant and a little playful. But how do we make this fabric processing an eye-catcher on us?
For centuries, fashion designers and enthusiasts have been fascinated by the effect of pleated blinds. Or more precisely “Plissé”. This can be translated from French as “folded”. In the pleating technique, small folds are worked into the fabric using a chemical process or steam. But it doesn’t stop with silk and cotton: knitwear can hardly save itself from this.

A la Fortuny
The Spaniard Mariano Fortuny was an all-round talent who was interested in photography, sculpture and fashion design. So it was no wonder that he opened his own fashion house in 1906, while he was still alive. Instead of developing a new collection every season like other designers, he drew on his most famous work: the Delphos dress. Inspired by Greek antiquity, he and his wife developed a technique to create fine pleats on silk. The famous dress was released every season in a limited number with isolated changes in cut and color. The little pleats accentuate the right parts of the body while gently nestling around you.

Large or small wrinkles, you decide according to your heart’s content. The lengths Midi and 7/8 are particularly popular here. In summer, they give you plenty of legroom without having to worry about the wind revealing the color of your underwear. At the same time, the hem of the skirt is long enough in winter for the boots to elegantly disappear under it. With a blouse you go to the office, with a t-shirt for a stroll, in an oversized sweater and leather jacket you can relax for a big round with the woof.

After all, we want to keep it as long as possible! In principle, a trip to the cleaning does no harm. However, if you want to take matters into your own hands, you have to consider a few things: Stay away from the spin cycle and hot laundry! Instead, the gentle cycle with a mild detergent can be used at a maximum of 30 degrees. Before it goes into the washing machine, fold the skirt in line with the folds and place it long into a pair of tights. This keeps the shape and folds intact. When washing by hand, make sure that the skirt is not exposed to rubbing – Plissé doesn’t like that at all! To dry, simply hang in the shower and let it rest. This will help to keep the creases and get rid of wrinkles. This also works for quick care in between: Simply hang it in the bathroom while showering and the iron is done with.
