Rogue One: a Star Wars Story: What’s the Difference with the Star Wars Trilogies Movies?

TF1 is broadcasting this Sunday, December 26, from 9:05 p.m., Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Considered one of the best films of the mythical science fiction saga, the film still has several differences compared to the different trilogies, whether in substance or in form.

It is generally not easy to fit into a cinematic universe as rich as that created by the legendary George lucas. But in 2015, British director Gareth Edwards gave it a go with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Essay transformed because the film is very well received by critics and the public, who salute the work of the filmmaker. Despite the pressure, he understood the codes of Lucas’ fantastic epic perfectly.

But the feature film does not fit any of the trilogies. He has one story disconnected from the plot and the stakes of the main saga. The film begins like this a long time ago, in a distant galaxy, just before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, the first film released in 1977. It takes us alongside ordinary individuals who will attempt to steal the plans of the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction.

What made the success of the film is that Gareth Edwards managed to free himself from the original films and the flagship elements of the saga. So we’re not talking about the Force, which looms large in the other episodes, and there aren’t any lightsaber duels, which fans usually look forward to with every release. This doesn’t mean that there isn’t a lightsaber in the movie at all ….

A film darker than the previous ones

Inspired by war films, the spin-off takes us to a adventure lived from a more down-to-earth point of view, closer to the troops engaged in the tumult of the fighting, rather than on the side of the heroes. The group of main characters is thus made up of a handful of rebel soldiers, with no active Force users. The film is also darker and more realistic than the other parts of the saga. Finally, last element and not the least, this is the only Star Wars film whose music was not composed by the famous John Williams. For the occasion, it is Michael Giacchino (we have heard in other blockbusters like the last Star Trek or The Planet of the Apes) who is in charge. A few years after Rogue One, a new spin-off came out, Solo: A Star Wars Story, centered around the character of Han Solo. Unfortunately, this one was significantly less successful than the first. We cannot succeed every time …
