(CercleFinance.com) – Rolls-Royce announces that trials of its new small gas turbine specially developed to power hybrid-electric flight are about to begin.
This technology is part of a turbogenerator system being developed for the advanced air mobility market. This includes electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for urban air mobility applications and commuter aircraft up to 19 seats.
This solution should make it possible to open new routes that are longer than those that battery-powered aircraft can support today.
“This product will allow our customers to extend the routes that electric flight can support and means that more passengers will be able to travel further on low or zero emission aircraft,” Rolls-Royce said.
