Round-up Nations League – Kane saves England late in Germany – Italy beats Hungary – sport

  • The eternal duel between Germany and England finds no winner. The Nations League game in Munich ended 1-1 after Harry Kane equalized late.
  • Italy, on the other hand, gives its audience a pleasant evening. The European champions celebrate a 2-1 win over Hungary.
  • In League B, Finland and Bosnia-Herzegovina both win at home without conceding a goal.

League A, Group 3: Germany draw, Italy win

In the cracking duel in Group 3, England won a point late in Munich. After a strong offensive phase, Harry Kane rewarded the guests with a converted penalty kick to make it 1-1 (88th). It was the 50th goal for the captain in the England jersey – only Wayne Rooney (53) has reached this mark so far.

In an intense but only spectacular duel in the final quarter of an hour, Jonas Hofmann scored the 1-0 after 51 minutes. The Gladbach wing slammed into the ball after a clever pass from Joshua Kimmich, but Jordan Pickford would have saved the central shot on a good day. A little later, however, the English goalie made a strong save against veteran Thomas Müller and then Timo Werner.

Both teams are still not really moving, the “Three Lions” still get the first point after the surprising opening defeat against Hungary.

It should remain without consequences for Italy: Gianluca Mancini’s unfortunate own goal after an hour. Because even after the goal, the hosts kept the upper hand against Hungary and brought the 2-1 lead over time. Nicolo Barella opened the scoring in Cesena with a powerful shot from the edge of the box in the 30th minute. Shortly before the break, FCZ striker Wilfried Gnonto, who was starting for the first time, narrowly missed making it 2-0 when a Hungarian defender was able to clear the cross at the last moment. His teammate Lorenzo Pellegrini did better moments later – again after a cross pass into the danger zone.

The decisive scene in Zenica happened after 68 minutes. Romania goalie Florin Nita was unable to clear a low cross. His defense provided the ideal template for Smail Prevljac, who had no trouble making it 1-0 to win. Coach Ivaylo Bogdanow was also happy about that – he had substituted the only goalscorer for old champion Edin Dzeko at half-time.
