Despite their alliance for the legislative elections, the boss of the Communist Party maintains execrable relations with the Insoumis leader. In case of victory, the latter has no intention of appointing him to the government.
An agreement without agreeing. Row with the “Nupes” for the legislative elections, the communist Fabien Roussel no longer hesitates to proclaim loud and clear his differences with the Insoumis Jean-Luc Mélenchon. Thursday evening, during a public meeting in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux – in the 20th district of the North where he is a candidate for re-election – the boss of the PCF let it be known that he had not appreciated the remarks of the third man of the presidential election on the forces of order. “I will never mix things up by saying that “police kill”», he hammered dryly. In a very clear reference to the controversial remarks of Jean-Luc Mélenchon after the shooting death of a passenger in a vehicle, for a refusal to comply during a police intervention last Saturday in Paris.

“Under no circumstances will I speak like this”
“Under no circumstances will I speak like this, ever”, he insisted, according to comments reported by AFP. The former PCF presidential candidate (2.28%) rather claimed the “need for better trained police and gendarmes, in sufficient numbers, to guarantee our peace”. Issues related to the maintenance of order are part of the notable divisions between Jean-Luc Mélenchon and Fabien Roussel. In May 2021, the communist had notably participated – as part of the political class – in the rally of the police in Paris. L’Insoumis had, on the contrary, denounced a “demonstration of an ostensibly factious nature”.
Fabien Roussel pleads despite everything for a majority on the left, against Emmanuel Macron, behind the first minister designated Jean-Luc Mélenchon. “I have heard too many people who say to me: “anyway, it’s over, Macron is elected and it won’t change”. Nothing is over, it’s just the opposite”he assured, calling for a “mobilization of the popular classes” and some “youth”. The communist warns, however, that he does not want the Nupes to turn into “unique part”. “The choice we have made is to elect the most left-wing deputies, but tomorrow we will each have our group in the Assembly, our independence, our autonomy”, he warned, as a message addressed to the rebels. And if Jean-Luc Mélenchon managed to obtain a majority and therefore to seize Matignon, would he make Fabien Roussel a minister of his government? In a small committee, the ex-LFI candidate replies: “No, I don’t think that’s possible”.
