RTE, the operator of high voltage lines in France, announced Thursday the signing of a 4.5 billion euro contract with a consortium made up of Chantiers de l’Atlantique and the Japanese group Hitachi for the construction of installations aimed at developing offshore wind power.

In a press release, RTE welcomes “a historic agreement for the construction of the first direct current electrical platforms and onshore conversion stations for the offshore wind farms of Normandy (Centre Manche 1 & 2) and Oléron”.

“This contract, of an unprecedented scale for RTE, marks the change of scale in the development of offshore parks and positions France among the few European nations capable of building large electrical substations and current converter stations. continuous (HVDC) at sea”, he emphasizes.

These platforms, with a higher power (1250 MW) and a larger size than the alternating current ones equipping the first French offshore wind farms, as well as the conversion stations on land, will allow integration into the network. of more than 3.5 GW of renewable electricity production capacity, specifies RTE.
