AfD gains another point

Once again, the AfD achieved the highest value recorded for it in the trend barometer to date. CDU leader Merz is now clearly ahead on the chancellor issue, but has less approval than the Union as a whole.

After the Wagenknecht group split off in the Bundestag, the left lost one percentage point in the trend barometer. The AfD has gained one point compared to the previous week and is once again at an all-time high. The values for all other parties do not change.

If the Bundestag were to be elected this week, the parties could expect the following result: CDU/CSU 31 percent (federal election in September 2021: 24.1 percent), AfD 23 percent (10.3 percent), SPD 14 percent (25.7 percent). percent), Greens 13 percent (14.8 percent), FDP 5 percent (11.5 percent), Left 3 percent (4.9 percent). 11 percent of voters would choose other parties.

At 26 percent, the proportion of non-voters and those undecided is higher than the proportion of non-voters in the last federal election (23.4 percent).

There are also only minimal changes in the Chancellor’s preferences compared to the previous week. If the Chancellor were directly elected, 15 percent would choose incumbent Olaf Scholz from the SPD, if the opposing candidates were CDU leader Friedrich Merz and Economics Minister Robert Habeck. Merz accounted for 24 percent and Habeck 18 percent. All of these values are unchanged compared to the previous week. 43 percent would choose none of them.

If it were not Habeck who stood for the Greens, but Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, 19 percent would choose Scholz, one point more than in the previous week. Merz would be chosen by 27 percent, one point less. Baerbock would still account for 17 percent. In this constellation, 37 percent answered “none of them”.

When asked which party is best able to deal with the problems in Germany, 18 percent currently name the CDU/CSU – an increase of two points compared to the previous week. 7 percent believe the SPD has political competence, 6 percent the Greens, 8 percent the AfD and 2 percent each the FDP or one of the splinter parties. 57 percent of Germans do not trust any party to solve the problems in Germany.
