RUMOR on Assassin’s Creed Jade: the game in China from Tencent not about to be released following a change of strategy

In September 2022, during the presentation for the 15th anniversary ofAssassin’s Creedan ambitious project for Android and iOS devices had been unveiled, then called Codename Jade. The one who is now simply called Assassin’s Creed Jade showed itself last year througha cinematic trailer and a trailer of gameplay on the occasion of the showcase of Level Infinite during the gamescomin addition to having been entitled to closed beta testing phases. Since then, it has been completely calm. Besides, we still don’t know who is really developing this game on behalf of Tencentbut there has apparently been movement on this side if we are to believe a rumor coming to us from Reuters and which will not please the players waiting for it, if there are any.

According to the article, According to three sources familiar with the project, Assassin’s Creed Jade would probably not be released before 2025 when it should have seen the light of day this year. Well, no period had been publicly revealed and fans are mainly waiting Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, so it’s not a big deal if that’s the case. However, it is interesting to focus on the reasons which would push Tencent to postpone this project.

Indeed, the Chinese giant has decided to change its approach by favoring its mobile game DreamStara sort of clone of Fall Guys, redeploying around a hundred developers then working on Assassin’s Creed Jade to the latter. The reason would not be complicated, since it would simply be to counter the game of his rival NetEase Eggy Partywhich again strongly reminds us of the title of Mediatonic… Behind this war of party gamesit is specified that the development of a licensed game such as AC Jade clearly does not bring in as much to the Chinese publisher as if it were one of its intellectual properties since it must pay royalties not to mention the fact that a game released on theApple App Store is taxed at 30%… And since besides that, a game like Eggy Party For NetEase or the famous Genshin Impact at the house of miHoYo bring in a lot of money, it is easy to see where the interests of Tencent.

THE Chief Strategy Officer James Mitchell also said the following while the report for the fourth fiscal quarter of Tencent has seen a clear decline in game sales, but nothing regarding a change in strategy has been confirmed.

We’re focusing on fewer, bigger budget games. Typically, we look to make the biggest bets on games that iterate on a successful IP… or on games that iterate around a proven gaming success in a niche and bring them to a more General public.

In short, as always, nothing is true, everything is permitted, but we should not be surprised if the communication surrounding Assassin’s Creed Jade will remain discreet in the coming months.

The most recent episode of the license, Assassin’s Creed Mirageis sold from €29.99 on Amazon, to the Fnac Or at the house of Micromania.
