Sitting on the street with their hands taped, climate activists of the last generation regularly polarize. Now they seem to have changed their form of protest a little. According to their own statements, in Berlin they recently relied on so-called “walking blockades”.

According to their own statements, climate activists of the last generation have held so-called “walking blockades” at 19 traffic points in Berlin. The activists did not stick themselves on the street, but rather walked in front of the traffic with banners, as the group announced. Drivers were forced to follow at walking speed.

According to the police, affected locations included Wedding, Friedrichshain, Pankow-Süd and Tempelhofer Damm. The officials prevented the protests in two places. The police said on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that drivers attacked the activists at Tempelhofer Damm.

A spokesman for the police union warned those affected not to resort to vigilantism. “Our colleagues will do their best to stop the illegal actions using legal means beforehand or to end them as quickly as possible.”

According to the activists, the intention of the action is to be visible in many places in the city. There were five to eight demonstrators per blockade group. The activists are calling for an end to the use of fossil fuels.

Raid on climate activist in Berlin

Most recently, the police said they confiscated “several hundred” tubes of superglue during a search of the apartment of a member of the Last Generation in Berlin. As officials in the capital announced, the raid took place at the 25-year-old’s home address in the Reinickendorf district.

According to police, the search was triggered by findings that the man was storing a batch of superglue curing accelerator and making it available to other members of the group. At least one activist stuck himself to a street with the material during a blockade. The suspect is therefore accused of aiding and abetting resistance against law enforcement officers and coercion.

According to the investigators, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office applied for the search warrant “due to urgency” orally to the responsible Tiergarten district court. After approval from the court, officers from the State Criminal Police Office responded to the address in question.
