Russell Crowe: He was the ominous big donor to Beirut Restaurant

Film star Russell Crowe made a "generous donation" to a destroyed Beirut restaurant "on behalf of Anthony Bourdain".

The Australian Hollywood star Russell Crowe (56, "Gladiator") took part in the GoFundMe fundraiser for the destroyed Le Chef restaurant in Beirut (Lebanon), as he does now confirmed via Twitter.

Filmmaker Amanda Bailly and journalist Richard Hall started the site to help rebuild the restaurant. After receiving a "generous donation", they asked themselves whether it really came from the actor. Hall tweeted, "Somebody named Russell Crowe made a very generous donation to our Le Chef fundraiser. But I'm not sure it's really Russell Crowe."

The donation totaled $ 5,000, and it wasn't long before Crowe personally confirmed it was him and the donation was made on Anthony Bourdain's behalf (1956-2018). "I thought he probably would have done that if he were still around," wrote Crowe, alluding to the US chef docu star Bourdain, who portrayed Le Chef in one of his programs. "I wish you and Le Chef all the best and hope that things can be fixed again soon," continued Crowe.

The American Anthony Bourdain took his own life in 2018.
