Russia could use chemical weapons, says Stoltenberg (NATO)-Welt am Sonntag

BERLIN, March 13 (Reuters) – NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag in an interview that Russia may use chemical weapons in Ukraine as a war crime.

“In recent days, we have heard absurd allegations about laboratories developing chemical and biological weapons,” the newspaper reported, quoting Jens Stoltenberg, who added that the Kremlin was inventing excuses to justify the unjustifiable.

“Now that these allegations have been made, we must remain vigilant because Russia itself could be planning operations using chemical weapons. That would be a war crime,” wrote Welt am Sonntag, again quoting Jens Stoltenberg.

The NATO Secretary General also said that although the Ukrainian people are resisting the Russian invasion with courage, the next few days will be even more difficult. (Report Madeline Chambers; French version Camille Raynaud)
