Ryanair signs 160,000 ton SAF contract with OMV

(CercleFinance.com) – Ryanair and OMV, an integrated oil, gas and chemicals company, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to supply Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Ryanair airports in Austria, Germany and in Romania.

This MoU gives Ryanair one-time access to purchase up to 160,000 tonnes (53 million gallons) of SAF from OMV over the next 8 years, saving over 400,000 tonnes of ‘CO2 emissions.

This agreement demonstrates Ryanair’s commitment to the 12.5% SAF target by 2030 and the airline’s ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Ryanair has already made progress towards its environmental targets with its $22 billion investment in its new Boeing 737 “Gamechanger” fleet, which produces 16% fewer emissions and 40% less noise.

“SAF plays a key role in our decarbonisation strategy in which we are committed to increasing our use of SAF over the next few years,” says Thomas Fowler, Ryanair’s Director of Sustainability.

Nina Marczell, OMV’s Vice President for Aviation, Fuel Distributors and Public Sector, adds: ‘This MoU is a great opportunity to accelerate both companies’ sustainability efforts. ‘
