Ryoyu Kobayashi utterly puzzled: “Kleber was not smart” – the trophy falls apart

Ryoyu Kobayashi won the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Saturday. The 25-year-old Japanese was visibly happy at the celebration. But when he wanted to lift the trophy into the air, it suddenly broke apart. Kobayashi looked totally puzzled, looked confused. Then the ski jumper laughed and took the mishap with humor. “The prize has been damaged a bit, but not completely broken,” said Kobayashi of the trophy, which consists of two parts and is glued together. “The glue didn’t hold up well,” said tour spokesman Ingo Jensen when asked by the German press agency and added with a wink: “If even the trophy flies, he has a really good chance of winning the tour.” The best Swiss was Kilian Peier in 12th place.
