Sage-Homme: who is Melvin Boomer, this breakdancer who gives the reply to Karin Viard?

Discovered in “The World of Tomorrow”, Melvin Boomer operates a 180 degree turn with “Sage-Homme”, in theaters since Wednesday.

We had been able to discover him in the adolescent version of JoeyStarr in the Arte series Le Monde de matin, it is in a completely different register that we find Melvin Boomer in the cinema since March 15.

This young actor in his twenties, born under the name of Melvin Promeneur, grew up in Vincennes with a mother who practices figure skating and a father who is a champion of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Diagnosed with dyslexia, dysorthographic and suffering from attention disorders, he struggles to find his place on the school benches. Like his parents, it was in sport that the young Melvin flourished, who practiced basketball, capoeira and parkour, before discovering breakdance at the age of 12, for which he fell in love.

Having become a breakdancer, he learned hip-hop from Delphine Schoevaert, and classical/jazz from Candice Alekan at Arts en Mouvements. He then continued his training at the International Dance Academy, then founded the Artiumprod collective in 2020, which brings together dancers of various styles, as well as various artists to create unique content that navigates between dances, short films, freestyles and photographs. .

In 2022, the general public will discover it in the credits of the series by Katell Quillévéré and Hélier Cisterne, The World of Tomorrow, which looks back on the formation of the NTM group. Spotted on Instagram thanks to the breakdance videos of his collective Artium, Melvin Boomer has the heavy task of playing Didier Morville, alias JoeyStarr, when he has no experience in comedy. A choice that will pay off: Tomorrow’s World enjoys an excellent critical and public reception, and its performance is unanimously hailed.

He then auditions for Sage-Homme, eager not to let himself be locked in a box, as he confides to Konbini : “[…] even if the series had not yet been released, I was aware of the category in which it risked locking me up. I’m woven, I played JoeyStarr, a very strong role, I was lucid. And it did not fail, as soon as The World of Tomorrow came out, I was only offered projects on hip-hop, the city and thug roles.

Facing Karine Viard, he portrays a young man who, after failing the medical entrance exam, finds himself in spite of himself in the female midwifery community. With a mother and a sister working in early childhood, it was important for him to shed light on a profession that lacks means and recognition. To prepare as well as possible, he took training in a maternity emergency service with Marie-Jo Boyer, the oldest midwife in the service. He attended two deliveries: the first went well, the second was very difficult: “The baby had respiratory distress but everything ended well. It’s very trying, I was overwhelmed with emotion, I cried. It took me a long time to recover.”
