DECRYPTION – No employee can be paid less than the minimum wage. However, 85% of the branches have minima lower than the Smic since its revaluation of May 1, according to the Ministry of Labor. Explanations.
The new automatic revaluation of the minimum wage on May 1 puts companies under pressure. This automatic increase of 2.65%, due to high inflation, has pushed the minimum wages of many professional branches below the minimum wage – now set at 1645.58 euros gross per month. According to figures from the Ministry of Labor provided to the Figaro, 85% of the 171 branches with more than 5,000 employees, or 146 in total, are now in this situation. Among them, we can cite chemistry, do-it-yourself, aesthetics, clothing or even furniture. If no employee can actually be paid less than the Smic, this problem worries the unions, like the government.
