CSN threw its hat into the ring together with competitors Mizu and Apodi, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The Swiss Holcim group expects proceeds of between 1 billion and 1.5 billion dollars from the sale. The consortium around CSN wants to buy a larger part of the Holcim activities in Brazil.
This also included ten production facilities. The two largest Brazilian cement manufacturers, Votorantim and Intercement, had submitted offers for their part, but had to keep an eye on possible concerns of the competition authorities.
The negotiations could be completed as early as August, the insiders said. Holcim will negotiate with everyone interested. But there will be no second round of offers. The sale will be accompanied by the investment banking division of Itau Unibanco. (SDA)
