At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Samsung is publicly showing its upcoming wearable Galaxy Ring for the first time. The smart ring is scheduled to appear in the second half of the year and is expected to be available in nine different sizes. The ring size probably not only determines the accuracy of the fit, but also the battery life.
According to South Korean media, this should be up to 9 days. However, you will probably only achieve the maximum battery life if you wear the Galaxy Ring in the largest size. The South Korean manufacturer is currently tending to install a larger battery in larger rings. This is what they tell us at the exhibition stand.
Larger rings could offer up to 46 percent more battery capacity
The principle is not new. Samsung’s smartwatches are also available in different sizes and offer different battery capacities. In the 40 millimeter version, the battery of the Galaxy Watch 6 has a capacity of 300 milliamp hours (mAh), while in the 44 millimeter version it is 425 mAh. However, the differences in battery life are not that great here, as part of the higher battery capacity in the larger smartwatch models is also used up by the larger display, which requires more power.
This is different with a smart ring. After all, there is no display here. Therefore, the battery life is likely to vary, especially since the differences in capacity are likely to be similar to those of Samsung’s smartwatches. At industry leader Oura, for example, a size 13 ring (22 mAh) offers 46 percent more battery capacity than a size 6 ring (15 mAh).
Up to 3 days difference in battery life?
Oura currently states the battery life of its ring as up to 7 days – and makes no distinctions in terms of size. According to a Reddit thread, this was different a few years ago, when the company specified battery life at four to seven days, depending on the size.
