At its Unpacked event on August 10, Samsung presented two new folding smartphones: Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. The folding concept is identical to its predecessors, but Samsung is making important changes to make the devices even more attractive to do for everyday life. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4
Folding Mechanism:
Samsung manages to reduce the hinge for the folding mechanism, which makes it possible to install a 400 mAh larger battery. In the first short test, the technology makes a stable impression as before. Only a long-term test would provide information about how durable the hinge really is. However, our experience shows that the predecessors do not cause any problems in this regard and the durability is very good.

The Z Flip 4 can be folded horizontally. When folded, the cell phone is particularly small and as a user you hardly feel the cell phone in your trouser pocket. Unfolded, you then have a normal, large smartphone.
Design & Display:
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 has the same form factor as its predecessor, with a configurator you can customize the look of your device. Means: You can put together the housing colors yourself. On the back, next to the dual camera, there is again a small 1.9-inch screen to be able to read important information and notifications even when the phone is folded up. You can also show the camera image if you want to take a selfie with the main camera, for example.
The display is the same size at 6.7 inches, but the AMOLED screen now automatically adjusts the refresh rate between 1 and 120 Hertz, according to Samsung. If we scroll a lot or play games, the cell phone provides a correspondingly high frame rate. As soon as we read something, for example, it is reduced – this is how the mobile phone saves energy, among other things. The fold on the display is noticeable, but that doesn’t interfere with operation.
Camera:
Samsung improves the dual cam on the back. Although the resolution remains the same at 12 megapixels, the main camera’s sensor now captures 65 percent more brightness. In our first test, we managed to take attractive and colorful photos. We will soon be testing the cell phone and the camera in detail.
Performance & Storage:
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 uses the current Snapdragon processor 8+ Gen 1, which Qualcomm manufactures using the 4-nanometer process, which makes it not only very powerful but also energy-saving. During our brief test, the cell phone didn’t lag at any point. It is supported by 8 GB of RAM in all memory variants.
You can order the Z Flip 4 in three memory sizes: 128, 256 and 512 GB. There is no expansion via micro SD card.
Price and availability:
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes in purple, graphite, pink gold and blue colors. In addition, with the “Bespoke Edition” you can configure your own design and design the mobile phone in 75 different combinations.

Folding Mechanism:
Samsung was also able to make the hinge thinner on the Galaxy Z Fold 4, which created a little more space to improve features. For example, the cell phone now offers a camera sensor with 50 instead of 12 megapixels.
Open the Galaxy Z Fold 4 vertically. So the device is already the size of a normal smartphone, when you open it you get an even larger screen in tablet format for even better watching videos or even working with it.
Design & Display:
In the “normal state” the Z Fold 4 has a display size of 6.2 inches. By folding out the screen increases to 7.6 inches. The new foldable phone is also Samsung’s first device with Android 12L, which is specially optimized for large screens and foldable smartphones. When you open an app, a taskbar appears at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to quickly open other apps. You can use applications in parallel on the large display and, for example, drag and insert files directly from one app to the other. The device has a very high quality finish, and we only got positive feedback from the first test.
The large screen’s front camera disappears behind the display glass and cannot be seen when you view a photo in full screen, for example. The display also offers your refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hertz.
