Samsung has finally launched its long-awaited Galaxy S21 FE. A day later, the Korean firm decided to take advantage of CES 2022 to launch a product that was much less expected: The Freestyle, a video projector designed above all and above all for flexibility and portability.

It’s a rather compact (155.8mm x 93mm) and lightweight (800 grams) device capable of connecting with just about anything you want just like a Smart TV. We saw him briefly before his presentation running games for PS5, Nintendo Switch, but also an Orange TV box or even a screen mirroring smartphone. Thanks to its direct Wi-Fi connectivity, it can be connected to a PC directly. A mini HDMI port and a USB-C port complete the connectivity. Note also the presence of a microphone that will allow the use of voice control via Bixby, Samsung’s voice assistant.
Multiple possible uses
Samsung Electronics seems to have thought out its product rather well so that it adapts to many situations. Starting with its support which allows it to be rotated 180 degrees. For example, we can imagine projecting a film on the ceiling while being stretched out in bed.

Another advantage: the trapeze adjustment is done automatically. With such a portable device, it’s interesting. During the demonstration we were able to attend, The Freestyle had for example been placed askew on a book, and yet, the rendering of the image was perfectly straight. A color treatment also makes it possible to adapt if you do not have a white wall in your home.
One of the uses that Samsung thinks of in offering this product is that of professionals on the go, who need a device to project. We think, for example, of people working in education or construction.
Full HD and connected speaker
On the technical side, we will not have to wait for more than Full HD in definition. We don’t know the refresh rate, and Samsung couldn’t give us it when we asked them. In contrast, The Freestyle is HDR10 compatible and can display an image ranging from 30 to 100 inches. However, you will need a little distance, 2.7 meters for the largest size. The maximum brightness expected is relatively low, since it peaks at 230 cd / m².

An integrated speaker provides the sound part. It is supposed to reproduce the sound at 360 degrees, connected speaker style, but we couldn’t really judge the sound quality, except that in a slightly noisy room, we had some difficulty hearing it.
Price and availability of The Freestyle
The Freestyle will be available from February 17, 2022, and for pre-order from January 20. Count all the same the trifle of 999 euros to get your hands on it.
