Samsung is known for experimenting with its smartphones. When a new technology is introduced, it usually stays with it and is further developed and improved. This is exactly what should also be the case with the under-display camera, which has so far only been used in a few Samsung devices.

Samsung’s dual under-display camera in development

Samsung used an under-display camera for the first time in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 (test). However, this did not deliver a good image quality, nor was it really invisible. With the Galaxy Z Fold 4, things have improved somewhat. The technology is still in its infancy, but Samsung wants to change that. Samsung not only wants to work on the image quality of the camera and its invisibility, but also expand the range of functions. Accordingly, Samsung is said to be working on an idea that improves face recognition. should According to a patent, two under-display cameras are installed that create a 3D model (Source: Galaxy Club).

Samsung would certainly improve facial recognition with two under-display cameras, since then depth would also be included as an additional security factor. However, the technology would not be as secure as Apple’s Face ID. The search for new under-display camera ideas shows that Samsung remains true to the technology and will continue to develop it. So far, the under-display cameras have only been used in models that have a normal camera as a replacement in an emergency.

Under-display camera soon in S-Class phones?

If Samsung invests more in under-display technology and plans new ideas, then there is a very high probability that they will also be used in significantly more smartphones – but certainly not in the Galaxy S23. For the Galaxy S24 or Galaxy S25, the time would actually have come after a few generations. This is the only way Samsung can ultimately prove that the technology is really worth something. But all this is just speculation. We’ll see how Samsung decides.
