(AOF) – Sanofi announces that it has increased its investments by 1.1 billion euros in its major industrial projects to create new bioproduction capacities on its sites in Vitry-sur-Seine (Val de Marne), Le Trait (Seine- Maritime) and Lyon Gerland (Rhône). This new investment will enable the creation of more than 500 jobs and will significantly strengthen France’s capacity to control the end-to-end production of current and future essential medicines.
In total, since the Covid-19 pandemic, Sanofi has deployed an investment plan of more than 3.5 billion euros to finance its major drug and vaccine production projects in France, for patients around the world.
In Vitry-sur-Seine, Sanofi will invest 1 billion euros to build a new factory which will double the production capacity of monoclonal antibodies on the site. The group anticipates the creation of 350 direct jobs thanks to this investment.
On the Trait site, in Normandy, Sanofi will invest 100 million euros to develop new bioproduction capacities, particularly in the formulation, filling, assembly and packaging stages to support the launch of future biological drugs and vaccines, as well as the strong development of Dupixent, already indicated in several inflammatory diseases and which could soon become the first biomedicine indicated in chronic bronchitis. This investment corresponds to 150 direct jobs.
In Lyon Gerland, the French laboratory will invest 10 million euros to localize in France the production of Tzield, a biomedicine against type 1 diabetes which Sanofi acquired in April 2023 and which was then produced outside Europe.
