Saône-et-Loire: a woman imprisoned for animal abuse on one of her dogs

Jailed for abusing one of her 28 German Shepherds. This Thursday, January 27, a 48-year-old woman living near Autun (Saône-et-Loire) was placed in pre-trial detention for acts of animal abuse observed at her home.

The alert concerning potential acts of animal abuse was launched in mid-January by a veterinarian, dispatched to the home of the woman in question to examine a dog that the latter refused to euthanize. The professional had immediately detected signs of abuse on the canine, before alerting the gendarmes of Etang-sur-Arroux, according to Ouest-France.

On site, in the town of Saint-Didier-sur-Arroux, the police discovered a breeding of 28 German shepherds this Thursday, including the dog examined a few days earlier in a very worrying state of health.

“The animal is found in a state of agony and finally dies of sepsis,” explained the Autun gendarmerie company, relayed by the regional daily.

Two months incarceration

Already judged in the past for similar facts according to the Journal de Saône-et-Loire, the owner was placed in police custody, then in pre-trial detention in Dijon (Côte-d’Or) for mistreatment of animals before to be imprisoned for two months.

This decision came a few months after the almost unanimous vote in Parliament of a bill aimed at combating animal abuse.
