Sarah Dreier – “I never thought that all this would happen”

In the big “Krone” interview, ski mountaineer Sarah Dreier talks about her rapid rise and the best season of her career so far.

“Krone”: Sarah, you are World runner-up, home World Cup winner and small crystal globe winner. How does that sound? Sarah Dreier: It’s extremely cool, I never thought all this would happen. The first victory in Schladming in front of family and friends was special. The little ball is the icing on the cake. How do you justify your rapid rise? I don’t really know (laughs). I was second in the first race, so I thought to myself, everything that comes now is a bonus. I then developed a certain looseness and also enjoyed great support from my family. With all these factors, you already have a good basis. Another important step was that you temporarily gave up your day job as a teacher, right? Yes, definitely. I do miss the children and my colleagues, but it was the right decision. This enabled me to concentrate fully on the sport. You really want to go into army sport. Is there any news already? I have the position on April 25th and then I hope to be in basic training from July. I think it looks good. How do you see the development in your sport? We are a very young and up-and-coming sport that is developing rapidly. It’s great that we’ll be at the Olympic Games in 2026. We notice that we are getting more and more media attention. That’s a nice feeling. What goals do you still have in your further career? I would like to continue enjoying ski mountaineering. In terms of sport, the overall World Cup would be a big goal, but I have to improve in the individual and sprint disciplines. What are your plans for the new season? Now two weeks of rest are announced. I do what I enjoy and spend time with my loved ones. Then the training starts again, because we ski mountaineers are made in summer. I then ride my racing bike a lot, do mountain runs and complete numerous training courses. Time flies by.
