The three girls decide to go swimming. But the sea on the beach section of Arbus is stormy on this Friday afternoon. Fernando P. even advised the girls not to swim, according to the newspaper.
When the girls are carried away by the current, they call for help. Fernando P. plunges into the waves and manages to pull all three girls out of the waves towards land. Bathers who watch the young people being rescued have already alerted the rescue workers.
Fernando collapses after the rescue
Fernando P. succeeds in getting the girls to the beach. But then the 60-year-old collapses and suffers a heart attack. The alarmed rescue workers are too late. Any attempt to revive Fernando P. remains in vain.
The 60-year-old dies on the beach after his heroic deed. The Italian newspaper reports that fear, stress and physical exhaustion led to the heart attack. Now all of Italy is mourning the hero dad.
The mayor of the village where Fernando P. lived arrived at the scene of the tragedy: “He was our best community worker. His death is a great loss for us. He tried to save lives. We are shocked and express all our condolences to his family. “
