Roger Cicero would have turned 50 on July 6th. His friend Sasha remembers the jazz singer who died in 2016.
Today Monday (July 6th) Roger Cicero would have celebrated his 50th birthday. The singer died on March 24, 2016 at the age of only 45. Sasha (48, "If You Believe") took part in the first season of "Sing My Song – The Exchange Concert" with Cicero in 2014 and remembers his friend in conversation with the news agency spot on news. "I think he would have celebrated his 50th birthday," he says. "Then I could have hugged him and said 'congratulations you old sack'. How I would like to do that …"

When Sasha thinks of Cicero, the first thing that comes to mind is "what a great person and gifted singer he was". His favorite song by him was "If it were over tomorrow." "I heard the song for the first time at his album release party and thought it was great – my motto! Back then I would never have thought that the song would have such a blatant meaning, because it is supposed to give courage and call for life in the here and now. When I hear it today, I always have a tear in my buttonhole. "
Sasha particularly likes to think back on being on stage with Roger Cicero. That was "always great, but being able to experience the first season of 'Sing my song' with him was special! We all got to know each other a lot more intensely, musically, but above all humanly!"
The last meeting of the two singers
What the 48-year-old misses most is "cheerful, polite, elegant style". He also remembers the last encounter with the jazz singer. "I mean, it happened to be in front of a flower shop in the Schanze (meaning the Schanzenviertel in Hamburg, editor's note), he was enjoying his mandatory break at the time, but was already talking about new projects. I think he rarely really came to rest. " When it came to singing, Roger Cicero could not fool anyone. He was a "thoroughbred musician through and through".
"We knew each other for a long time, but we really only got to know each other much too late. We would have become good friends and I would have loved to learn a lot from him. Roger left much too early. He is missing!"
