“I think he’s making a big mistake not to get vaccinated”: Boris Becker reacted to the scandal surrounding Novak Djokovic.

Boris Becker (54) commented on the Novak Djokovic (34) case, whose immigration farce determines the headlines before the Australian Open. Becker wrote in the “Daily Mail”: “As his former coach, I’m so close to Novak Djokovic that I would almost call him family – but as in any family, there are sometimes differences of opinion.” In this case, Becker said, “I think he’s making a big mistake not to get vaccinated. It’s one that threatens the rest of his career and his chance to establish himself as the greatest player of all time.”

Becker went on to explain, among other things: “When he arrived at Melbourne Airport, I exchanged messages with Goran Ivanisevic, the trainer who accompanied him.” Ivanisevic was separated from Djokovic “because he and the rest of the team were allowed to travel to Australia”. He did not have the opportunity to speak to the tennis player himself, said Becker, “but I would advise him to get vaccinated – but whether he would listen is another question”.

Decision on monday?

Novak Djokovic, who was trained by Becker from 2013 to 2016, wants to compete in the Australian Open. The 34-year-old had apparently arrived with a medical exemption, but the visa was then withdrawn. At the moment Djokovic is still in Australia, a decision could be made on Monday. The Australian Open starts on January 17th.
