Scandal in Radstadt – police blew up heated debate about wind power

Does Salzburg need wind turbines? An explosive question that repeatedly leads to heated debates. How heated was shown by an information event initiated by the Alpine Club in Radstadt. Even the police had to step in after opponents and supporters of a project got into a verbal argument.

About 70 to 80 people gathered in the Radstädter Stadtsaal on Thursday evening. The “Krone” was also there. The topic of the so-called “Citizen Information Event” of the Alpine Association: the planned wind power project on the Windsfeld in Flachau. Right at the beginning, after the Alpine Club speaker Herbert Jungwirth had entered the stage, there were interjections from the audience. Shortly afterwards, project participant Markus Kirchner from the local agricultural community took the stage on his own and spoke. Jungwirth clearly did not accept that, went back on stage and stepped in: He led Kirchner back to his seat by the shoulder. Meanwhile, one of the organizers called the police about the incident. The officials reached the city hall while the event was still ongoing and instructed Kirchner.

Supporters and opponents criticize each other

Opposite the “Krone” the project advocates said: “It is madness that I am being led away in front of my family and treated like that. This goes against freedom of expression. ”Jungwirth, on the other hand, locates a“ disguised and planned history of the project operator ”. He has never experienced anything like this, said the Alpine Club functionary about the “Krone”.
