For several days, a worrying challenge has been all the rage among young TikTok users. This consists of mutilating the skin of the face with the fingers to reveal a kind of scar. Warned, however, the platform refuses to delete the videos in question.
The challenge is particularly popular with teenagers, and tutorials are also available on the application. They explain that to get a scar-like mark, you have to pinch your skin really hard with two fingers and then twist it.
No self-harm, according to TikTok
Some of these tutorials have over 500,000 views, and some young people pinch themselves repeatedly to get multiple marks on their faces. If this practice may seem innocuous, it can leave permanent marks on the face. In its rules of use, TikTok prohibits videos inciting self-harm and removes “ any content that discusses self-harm when searches using related terms “. The platform has however announced that the videos concerned here will not be deleted.
According to her, this practice does not fit into her definition of self-harm, but it is not known whether this decision was made in agreement with health specialists. TikTok, on the other hand, explained that this content would no longer be pushed into the “For you” of users. At the time of writing these lines, they are still accessible very simply, just search for the word scar on the social network.
Permanent marks

This is not the first time that a TikTok challenge has proven dangerous for young people. On a much more serious tone, the blackout challenge, which consists of choking until fainting, caused the death of more than 7 children.
