Scopelec, subcontractor of Orange, placed in safeguard procedure

BRIEF // Scopelec, the largest cooperative group in France, has been placed in safeguard proceedings after the loss of major contracts with Orange. Without these, Scopelec will draw a line under nearly 40% of its turnover.

Area of strong turbulence for Scopelec. The largest cooperative group in France has been placed in safeguard proceedings by the Lyon commercial court after the loss of major contracts with Orange. Specialized in the deployment of fiber, Scopelec was previously responsible for the installation of the operator’s networks, but the company lost 65% of its subcontracting contracts with the French telecom giant in November 2021 , following a call for tenders. This setback will cause it to lose around 40% of its turnover, estimated at 475 million euros in 2021.

At the end of January, Scopelec sounded the alarm over the consequences of the loss of its subcontracts with Orange. The company assured in particular that this situation would lead to the dismissal of half of its workforce, that is to say nearly 1,900 employees. Now engaged with other partners for the period from 2022 to 2025, Stéphane Richard’s group, which will soon hand over to Christel Heydemann, has highlighted a quality of service that has become insufficient to justify its choice.
