Police officers have arrived in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony to search six suspected members of the Reichsbürger scene who are said to have illegally posed as public prosecutors. According to the police in Nienburg, Lower Saxony, special forces were also involved in the raids on the accused, aged 56 to 67, for security reasons. It was about securing evidence.

The searches took place in Rinteln in Lower Saxony and in Vlotho, Porta Westfalica, Herford, Detmold and Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia, directly on the border between the two federal states. The accused are said to have pretended to be prosecutors in emails or faxes. The public prosecutor’s office in Bückeburg, Lower Saxony, is therefore investigating the misuse of titles.
According to investigators, procedurally relevant evidence such as fake ID cards and data carriers were confiscated during the six raids on Thursday morning. In addition, prohibited stabbing weapons, brass knuckles and electric shock devices as well as suspected drugs were also found. In these cases, additional criminal proceedings may be initiated, it said.
The scene of so-called Reich citizens and self-administrators is active nationwide. It consists of various groups as well as more or less unorganized individual representatives. Their members do not see the Federal Republic as a legitimate state and often do not feel bound by laws, administrative acts and court decisions. There are overlaps with the scenes of right-wing extremists and supporters of conspiracy ideologies.
