Serap Guler in the “early start”
“Compulsory vaccination cannot be avoided”
Despite “stomach pains” on the subject, CDU politician Serap Guler speaks out in favor of a general vaccination requirement. About Chancellor Helge Braun, she says that she does not want to become CDU boss on behalf of someone else, but “because he is passionate about it”.
Serap Güler, member of the Bundestag and, if the head of the Chancellery, Helge Braun, should become the new CDU chairman, his future general secretary, has spoken out in favor of mandatory vaccination in the “early start” at ntv in view of the dramatic corona situation in Germany.
“We had a different situation half a year ago, a year ago, and if we look at the current situation now, and the Chancellor says that the next few weeks will be worse than what we have ever had in a comparable situation Corona, then compulsory vaccination cannot be avoided, “said the former State Secretary for Integration of North Rhine-Westphalia. “And I think we have to communicate that openly and politically now.”
Looking at the previous promises made by politicians that compulsory vaccinations are excluded in Germany, Guler says that this is why she has “stomach pains”, but the current vaccination quota in Germany is not sufficient. “I am no longer willing to forego my freedoms just because people think they do not want to be vaccinated per se because they are following some non-scientific studies or discussions.”
“Renewal does not mean breaking”
Regarding the competition for party chairmanship in the CDU, Güler says that the head of the Chancellery is running because he is ready to help shape the renewal of the CDU. “The renewal does not mean a break with all those people who have been responsible in the party up to now.” As head of the Chancellery, Braun is someone who has a broad range of expertise. “And I wonder why we should forego this expertise now.”
Braun, a close associate of the Chancellor, had not been pushed forward by Angela Merkel to prevent Friedrich Merz from becoming party leader. “Helge Braun is self-employed, he also competes independently,” said Güler. “We are all people in our own right and are not an appendage or a copy of another person.” Braun is not on the road on behalf of another person, but rather to take responsibility, “because he is passionate about it himself.”
“What Poland is doing is absolutely right”
Regarding the drama on the border between Poland and Belarus, Guler says that Germany should not accept any more migrants. “I am of the opinion that we have done our service in this matter as Germany and now it is other countries’ turn.” That doesn’t mean that Germany shouldn’t help. “We have to help, but above all in the countries of origin and not by allowing Lukashenko to blackmail us, because this man is not up to anything else.”
Poland’s measures at the EU’s external border are expressly supported by Guler. “Poland protects the external border, and that is also in our interest. If Poland were to say we let everyone in, we let everyone through, then many more people would set out on this dangerous route and become Lukashenko’s plaything. In that respect, it is absolutely right what Poland is doing. ”
