Sergio Ramos signs contract with PSG until 2023

Paris-Saint-Germain hits a big blow in the transfer window. Thursday, July 8, he offered himself the iconic Spanish defender Sergio Ramos for two seasons. The Parisian football club are offering a final challenge to the 35-year-old former Real Madrid captain, who reluctantly left the Spanish squad.

The club from the French capital is hiring a Spanish football icon. World champion 2010, double European champion in 2008 and 2012 as well as quadruple winner of the Champions League, the player brings valuable experience to try to reach, finally, the Grail of a coronation in C1. “It’s a big change in my life, a new challenge and a day that I will never forget”, was moved in a press release from the Parisian club the player, who will find his favorite number 4 jersey.

One of the best central defenders in the world

It is, moreover, a new recruit of choice for the sporting director Leonardo, after the Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and the Moroccan side Achraf Hakimi, and while waiting perhaps the Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Reinforcements likely to convince Parisian superstar Kylian Mbappé to extend his current contract until 2022.

Ramos is an exceptional record in world football but also a leader of men with a fiery temperament. Originally from Camas, in the suburbs of Seville in Andalusia, he was trained at Seville FC. He made his professional debut there in 2004-2005 before joining Real Madrid at 19, who had acquired him for 27 million euros.

The player is one of the best central defenders in the world for his aerial presence, his power in duels and his sense of anticipation. He is also a rare defender-scorer, who most recently took on the responsibility of taking penalties at Real and has 101 goals in 671 games for the Madrid club.

The former right-back, converted central, is one of the most prolific defenders in history, with 23 goals with the Spanish selection. He is the most capped player with 180 caps – a record in Europe.

A departure from Real with regrets and injuries

However, it is reluctantly that the Andalusian was forced to leave Real this summer, after refusing an offer of a one-year extension accompanied by a salary cut. “A wonderful page of my life turns, but another opens, made of dreams, of the future”Ramos said in his farewell to Real. The defender assured to want “Show your best level for several years” and win “Other titles”.

The only downside for the neoparisian: his physical condition and his ability to chain matches at 35 years old. His last season at Real was disrupted by numerous injuries, to the right thigh, left calf and hamstrings. To the point that the Spanish coach Luis Enrique had chosen to do without his captain for the Euro, much to the disappointment of the person concerned.
