Singer Sharleen Spiteri from the cult band Texas couldn’t be prouder: daughter Misty Kyd is starting out as a model.

The British cult band Texas (“Say What You Want”) is celebrating their 35th anniversary this year and will release their tenth album “Hi” on May 28th. With this brief greeting, Texas want to “say hello to everyone – regardless of whether they are our fan or hear from us for the first time,” says singer Sharleen Spiteri (53) in an interview with the news agency spot on news. “Hopefully we can say ‘Hi’ to a lot of new people.”

The long player also features a song of the same name (“Hi”) with the well-known hip-hop band Wu-Tang Clan (“Tearz”). The two groups have been friends for years – which seems quite unusual due to the different styles of music. “It’s funny that there is such a strong bond between us,” explains Spiteri. Texas is a pop band from Great Britain, but comes from Glasgow in Scotland. Similarly, the Wu-Tang Clan is not from Central New York, but from Staten Island. “Being an outsider often brings people together,” says the Texas lead singer. In addition, the two groups combine a “love of music” and a love of collaborations with artists who do something completely different from yourself.

Success with Texas with no downside

Texas has been around for 35 years – but Spiteri doesn’t want to look back. She prefers to look to the future: “Everything still feels fresh and new to me,” she says. “I’m still learning a lot.” The band’s history is about getting ahead. This included highlights as well as lows – you have to go through the latter, because “no band can always be at its peak”. Nevertheless, the success had no downside for the singer, as she explains: “I had and still have a fantastic life thanks to the success of Texas. That’s why there is nothing negative for me.”

Three of the songs on the album were created in the corona lockdown. While the pandemic paralyzed the band’s plans, Spiteri had time “to do again what I hadn’t found time for in the many years of touring”. This included gardening, among other things. “I’ve always loved gardening – even with my grandfather when I was a little child. My father and mother are great gardeners too. I’ve always loved that. I’ve always found relaxation and inspiration in it,” says 53 -Year-olds.

Her husband had “a lot of camp fever” in lockdown

Her husband, celebrity chef Bryn Williams (43), also had a lot of free time due to the lockdown. “He was very surprised to be home in the evening and turn on the television,” says Spiteri. “He’s never had a working day from nine to five, he mostly works around the clock. That was a big change for him in the beginning. He had a lot of warehouse fever.” Williams watched many TV shows that he would not have known before. “That was very amusing for the whole family.”

Although Spiteri has a celebrity chef in the house, he is not alone at the stove. “We all cook in our house, including my daughter,” she says. As a result, there is always variety, because “we all cook very differently”. Unlike her mother, Misty Kyd (18), who comes from a previous relationship with Spiteri, is drawn not into the music, but into the fashion industry. And quite successfully: The 18-year-old has already been featured in British and Italian Vogue, W magazine and in Miu Miu and Fendi fashion shows.

Sharleen Spiteri on daughter Misty Kyd: “Whatever she will do in her life, she will pull it off”

Misty Kyd is also under contract with the renowned model agency Viva. “I’m very proud of my daughter Misty,” enthuses Spiteri. “I am proud of her because she has a great work ethic and I am sure whatever she will do in her life she will pull it off. For her future, I wish her that she is happy and satisfied with everything she does does. “

Texas’s next big plan, in addition to the promo for the new album, is a tour that is scheduled to start in early 2022. “I’m really looking forward to seeing people smile and sing along again. I can’t wait for that to happen,” says the lead singer. In order to make concerts possible again, the progress of the vaccination campaign is crucial, among other things. Spiteri got vaccinated in March. “I had no side effects at all, just a sore arm,” she says.
