Nearly 1,600 Covid-19 contaminations were identified Thursday in Côte d’Ivoire.
Côte d’Ivoire has recorded a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases in recent days, which infected nearly 1,600 people on Thursday, according to figures from the Ministry of Health.
On Wednesday, the number of new cases had risen to 1,502, then to 1,578 on Thursday, against a few dozen in previous weeks, according to the ministry, which does not specify the type of variant detected on these new cases.
This increase in new cases does not appear to have a significant impact on the number of deaths due to Covid, however: four new deaths were recorded on Thursday, for a total of 712 out of 68,146 confirmed cases since the onset of the pandemic at the start. 2020.
Officially, no case of the Omicron variant – which appeared in South Africa a month ago and which has since spread very rapidly across the world – has been detected in Côte d’Ivoire which is however increasing the screening tests, in particular for travelers arriving from countries affected by Omicron.
Seven million vaccinated
Apart from respecting barrier gestures and wearing a mask in closed public places such as banks, administrations, and supermarkets, no restrictive measures are in place in Côte d’Ivoire.
The ministry invites all people over 18 to be vaccinated against Covid-19, recalling that the vaccination is free.
About seven million people have been vaccinated in Côte d’Ivoire, which has a population of around 25 million.
