The quality of our sleep depends on many factors – one of them is the colors in our bedroom. We’ll tell you which tones ensure a good night’s sleep and a good mood.

We constantly feel how strongly colors influence our mood in everyday life. The bright yellow glow of the sun lifts our spirits, while the dull gray has a rather depressing effect in the dark season. Some restaurants even choose certain colors for their interiors that whet the appetite or make us leave quickly after eating.

Color tones also play an important role in what is possibly the most important room in our lives: How we design our bedroom not only influences the quality of our sleep, but also how we feel the next day. Our brain processes 99 percent of the color information unconsciously – that’s why the colors in the room in which we sleep are particularly important.

1. Pink for serenity + rest

Light pink tones are among the best colors for the bedroom because they have a calming effect and therefore promote sleep. In a pink environment we can immediately relax.

2. Blue for calm + safety

According to color experts, blue is also one of the top choices for our relaxation rooms. Shades of blue have a relaxing and calming effect on the brain, like a study could prove. That is why we can not only switch off and fall asleep in a blue bedroom, but ideally also wake up refreshed and happy.

3. Green against stress

Green equals nature – that’s how our brain perceives it. And this signal ensures that we can slow down quickly and leave everyday life behind us. Greens also represent balance, so they’re the perfect anti-stress colors. The selected nuances should not be too dark, because otherwise they could counteract the relaxation.

4. Beige + brown for coziness

Brown and beige also belong to the natural tones that our brain finds very pleasant. They look inviting and cozy, so they are perfect for the bedroom. But here, too, you should make sure that the tones are not too dark, so as not to disturb your restful sleep.

You shouldn’t paint the walls in your bedroom in very dark and intense colors, such as purple or even black. Because these tones have a rather stimulating effect and can impair the quality of sleep. Very bright colors such as pink or orange are also not a good idea, because we find it difficult to switch off in their surroundings.

Sleep better: you should keep this in mind in the bedroom

In addition to the optimal wall and decorative colors, there are of course a few other things that play a role in good sleep and a relaxed atmosphere in the bedroom.

  • We should keep our bedroom as tidy as possible. Because if our environment is structured and less chaotic, it is easier for our mind to find peace and clarity. It is therefore advisable to make the bed every day and not leave any clothes lying around.
  • In addition, the room should not be too bright for a good quality sleep. Blackout blinds and roller shutters can help here.
  • It should also not be too warm in the bedroom. Experts recommend a maximum of 18 degrees.
  • And last but not least: Leave your smartphone in the hallway or living room! Because our sleep is quieter and healthier when there are as few electronic devices in the bedroom as possible. If you don’t want to be without your cell phone or tablet at all, use it in flight mode so that you are at least exposed to less radiation.
