Shocking trial – rape after being chased through half of Vienna

A shocking rape trial is underway in the Vienna regional court on Tuesday. The accused is the 24-year-old Tunisian who chased a young woman through half of Vienna on March 18th and is then said to have raped her at Leipziger Platz, near the Jägerstraße subway station.

The 24-year-old victim, an academic, was on her way home from a disco in Meidling that night. The defendant spoke to the woman at the Meidlinger Hauptstrasse station and, according to the public prosecutor’s office, there was even a kiss. The victim then clearly said that he wanted to be left alone. But the man did not accept this. At the Spittelau subway station, the desperate woman turned to a couple for help. The perpetrator then apparently retreated. In fact, he continued to pursue the woman, but got into a different subway car. The victim felt safe. Shortly before her apartment, her tormentor appeared in front of her and dragged her to the ground. She screamed, shouted, cried – he didn’t let go of her. “She was dizzy, that’s why she fell to the ground,” claims the defendant, defended by lawyer Manfred Arbacher-Stöger, in court. “Before that she kissed me with her tongue, she was calm. When she fell to the ground I was shocked, I didn’t even think about sex anymore.”But the DNA traces speak for themselves. Passers-by finally came to the woman’s aid. The 28-year-old escalation manager Timo R. drove the suspected rapist into the hands of the police. He will testify as a witness in court.
